Confident senior portrait photographer purple top

Photography found me 15 years ago, during my life in Denver.

I was lost, looking for a “new adventure” and became friends with another photographer who specialized in headshots and weddings. I remember attending a wedding with him as a “second shooter” ( In reality: just holding fancy gear too scared to take a photograph) and him saying “Can I have the 70-200?” I had no clue what he was talking about. He finally just had to say “the big heavy one, Julia!”

Wanting to legitimately earn the title of second shooter and not look like a dummy again in front of my friend, I decided to learned what the gear I was holding was actually called! This lead to hours studying the relationship between shutter speed and aperture. Which then led to making flash cards of photography terms and aperture pictures (I am an excellent student :) ) From there I continued to learn, grow and develop (no pun intended) my own style.

After moving to Boston, I spent years honing my skills, working for free and being mentored by established pros. At some point during that I time, I began to feel confident enough to charge for my services.

Since then I have photographed weddings, family portraits, boudoir, children and newborns (god bless newborn photographers), but nothing has ever felt as natural to me as high school seniors and young performers. I love listening to them share about their life goals and always encourage them toward their bliss.

In 2019 I made the decision to ignore the voices that said “you have to shoot everything” and decided instead to trust my gut and only promote myself as a Senior + Young Actor Headshot photographer. I am loving every minute of it!

For those of you who like to know about gear: I shoot with professional equipment by Canon…and prefer, funny enough, to use the “big, heavy 70-200 2.8 lens” (now that I know what it is…)
